Grand tour of wineries in Georgia

The tour will start from Tbilisi, as the center not only of the country, but also of all the wines and flavors of Georgia. Familiarization with Georgian cuisine and drinks, which includes not only wine, but also brandy and chacha, will take place from the eastern region - Kakheti, to the west, to the seaside region of Adjara, all against the backdrop of the historical monuments and natural beauty of the country. Both the wines and the cuisine of Georgia's regions differ from each other, and we will taste them right in the places of their origin.

Day 1. Tour of city - brandy factory

Tbilisi. It would be inappropriate to start drinking in the morning, so the morning part of the program will be dedicated to the monuments of the 1500-year-old city. We will take a walking tour of Tbilisi, starting from the historical center of Metekhi plateau - the former residence of Georgian kings. We will take a cable car up to the Narikala fortress, which offers a panoramic view of the city, the secret Fig gorge, famous sulfur baths, Maidan square, the bohemian quarter of Sharden - the nightlife heart of the city, the Sioni church, pedestrian street of Irakli II - the place of democratic restaurants and cafes, Peace Bridge, Anchiskhati Basilica - the oldest building in the city, dating back to the 6th century, Gabriadze Tower, Freedom Square. During this walk, we will visit a wine cellar. There, in the underground, we will taste wines from various regions of Georgia, which we will later personally visit. After a 2-3 hour walk, we will visit the brandy factory of David Sarajishvili. He was the first producer of brandy in the Russian Empire and the supplier to the imperial court. You will try brandies that still retain their quality and traditions.

After the brandy tasting, the body usually requires rest and relaxation, so after a short break, we will take a tour of the night-time Tbilisi and get acquainted with the newest Georgian dishes in very inconspicuous, but very original and cozy restaurants of the city. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2. Kakheti - St. Nino monastery - Sighnaghi - Khareba wine tunnel

We are heading to the eastern part of Georgia - to Kakheti. This region is famous not so much for its gastronomic delights as it is for its wines. And they are truly excellent there. We will visit small private wineries where wines are produced using traditional Georgian technology, an informative wine museum where you will see the entire wine production process - from making vessels for wine - kvevri, to its consumption (yes, we will consume it there too). We will visit the wine tunnel of Khareba. There, in addition to wine tasting, you will personally take part in making Georgian bread - shoti and traditional Georgian snack - churchkhela. After three wineries, the taster's activity usually declines, so we will end the day in a very pleasant restaurant with traditional Kakhetian dishes. But on the way, we will still have time to visit the ancient town of Sighnaghi, located above the Alazani Valley, visit the Holy Nino Women's Monastery, and the unique 16th-century prince cellar. Overnight in Kakheti.

Day 3. Tsinandali - chees factory - wineries

A wine tour in Kakheti can last for a week, but we will only dedicate two days to it. On this day, we will visit the estate of the Chavchavadze princes. It's not only a place where Pushkin, Lermontov, and Griboyedov were guests, but it's also a unique enoteca that has been preserved since the 19th century. We will try their famous wine -Tsinandali, and several others produced on their estate. Wine and cheese are inseparable friends, so we'll visit a local cheese factory and try eight types of cheese and cheese desserts. On this day, we will also visit a couple of excellent wineries. Georgian cuisine wouldn't be complete without khinkali and chacha, and the birthplace of khinkali is the Caucasus Mountains. That's where we'll be heading early in the morning. We'll be driving along the Military-Georgian Road, which was praised by Chekhov, Pushkin, Mayakovsky, A. Duma and others. We'll see the medieval fortress of Ananuri, the confluence of the Black and White Aragvi Rivers, and the breathtaking cliffs, and finally the majestic Mount Kazbek. But along the way, we'll stop and try some authentic and delicious khinkali at a place where locals go instead of tourists. We'll even try making some ourselves. When exploring the wine regions of Georgia, one should never Racha, as it is the homeland of the famous Khvanchkara wine. From there, we will pass by the beautiful Shaori reservoir and head straight to the Khvanchkara winery. We will also visit a small private winery and return to Kutaisi in the evening.
